We knew this man in Hong Kong. John and I were working in the corporate world and we met him. He was doing well, making money to fix his boat. Always planning to sail onward, a modern Flying Dutchman, who wanted to sail round the world, and he'd made it to Hong Kong from England.
More than once he got trapped by his own success and he found that following your dreams isn't as easy as you'd like--even when you do chase them, dreams can be tricky things. Harper John wrote a song about him and his quest, and I loved it (and recorded it) and then we wrote this story and got Tom to take the pictures. So it's fiction, about a real person and a very real dream.
I'm a lifelong traveler. I write about the places I've seen and lived and they are as varied as the people I meet along the way. These places and people inhabit my stories and give them life.
